THE TEAM



The Writer

Stan Richardson is a playwright, actor, and director from St. Louis, MO living in NYC for the past 11 years.   His plays include wHormone, Columbus, Play Without Gravity, Mr. T. & Sympathy and The 52nd Annual Davenports Clan Yearly Family X-mas Spectacular.  Current projects include Ma Vie En Rosewood (also with Hal Goldberg) and Used (with composer Lance Horne).  And/Or, an evening of his short plays, ran throughout August as part of HotFest! at Dixon Place; Another Brief Encounter, one of those plays, will be published in NYTE's Plays and Playwrights 2007.   A graduate of NYU/Tisch School of the Arts and Edward Albee's Playwrights' Workshop, Stan is presently a staff reviewer for nytheatre.com and a proud member of The Writers Room and The Dramatists Guild of America.  


The Composer

Hal Goldberg  began writing music for "THE CHILDREN" at NYU, with book and lyric writer Stan Richardson.  Hal graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 1999, with a BFA in Drama from CAP21, and a minor in music. Most recently, Hal wrote the music to "NERDS://A MUSICAL SOFTWARE SATIRE", with book and lyric writers Erik Weiner and Jordan Allen-Dutton, which premiered at the New York Stage and Film Festival in 2004 after a successful workshop at NYU, and went on to be selected as one of the headlining shows of the 2005 New York Music Theatre Festival.  The Philadelphia Theatre Company will be presenting "NERDS" in February as part of their 2006-2007 Season.  Hal proudly works for Jujamcyn Theaters as the Theatre Manager of the Eugene O’Neill Theatre on Broadway.


The Director


Tony Speciale is currently pursuing his M.F.A. in directing at Columbia University. His play, Delirium: The Myth of Arthur Rimbaud, was presented at the 2004 Edinburgh Festival Fringe where it was honored with a British Writers’ Guild Award. Directing Credits:  pierced!, Criminal Genius, Mildred Is…, Shadow Play, Slut-The Musical,  My Martha Moment, Raw Impressions Musical Theatre, Aunt Jack, and The Ex (30th Annual Samuel French Short Play Festival winner). Tony has studied with the S.I.T.I. Company, is a graduate of The Boston Conservatory and was a member of the 1998-99 Acting Apprentice Company at Actors Theatre of Louisville. He is also a proud recipient of The Shubert Presidential Grant and Matthews Fellowship.
The Producers

Maffei Productions LLC is comprised of Gary and Charlie Maffei. Recent projects include Lonely Street, Legally Blonde, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and HATS! (associate producer). Musical Director

Paul Staroba is a native of Santa Rosa, California.  He graduated in the Spring of 2005 from the Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California with a Bachelor of Music in piano performance.  Paul began working as a theater musician at age fourteen, and has been part of over forty musical productions before moving to New York last September.  East coast credits include Grey Gardens off-broadway (also featured on the cast recording), Pompeii: The Musical in Wilmington, NC, and a variety of readings and concerts throughout New York City.  Paul also works as a private coach and audition pianist for Binder casting and Telsey casting, among others.
Associate Producer

 
Laurie Levy Issembert began her professional career as Executive Assistant to Producer/Director Roger Corman, Hollywood's king of B movies and horror films. Documentary television production at the local, national and international level followed, including four Emmy awards.  Since 1999, Laurie has been the Producer at The Musical Theater Center just outside Washington, DC, and has produced over 30 works of musical theatre with pre-professional children.  Many of her former students are now theatre professionals both on and off stage throughout the country.  Last summer, she produced The Last Days of Cleopatra for the 2005 New York International Fringe Festival at Players Theatre.

Joseph C. Moran is an actor and producer who
recently appeared in A Tribute to Eli Wallach and Anne Jackson at Symphony Space. As a founding member of MorGold Productions, he co-produced Zip Code, a new television pilot. Joe holds a bachelor's degree in Acting and Arts Management from Marymount Manhattan College. He  works as a freelance desktop publisher, graphic artist and web designer. www.joemoran.info

Jacob A. Climer New works include Bloody Mary (Third Man Productions) (NY IT Award Nominee), Life in Plastic at the Samuel French New Plays Festival, Welcome the “C’ District – a traveling street performance in downtown Pittsburgh. He has also designed Tempest, A Mid-summer Night’s Dream: The Musical (Dallas Shakespeare Festival) Footloose, Guys and Dolls (Hope Summer Repertory Theatre) Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (Carnegie Mellon School of Music.  Jacob has also had the pleasure of assisting on many shows here in New York and other cities: All Shook Up (National Tour / Designer: David Woolard) The Color Purple (Designer: Paul Tazewell), Albert Herring (Gotham Chamber Opera – Designer: David Zinn), and Tempest (Pittsburgh Public Theatre – Designer: Gabriel Berry) Jacob A. Stage Manager

Heather Davidson is a graduate of the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney, Australia. Upon graduating from NIDA, Heather spent 12 months as the Resident Stage Manager at The Street Theatre ( Canberra, Australia) before touring nationally with Jigsaw Theatre Company. She has worked as a stage manager and an event manager in theatre, special events, and festivals in New York and Australia . An Aussie who now resides in New York, Heather is currently working towards her MFA in Stage Management at Columbia University. Fight Choreographer

Adam Rihacek is an actor, director, and improv/sketch comedy artist from Perrysburg, Ohio who recently made his NY debut in Stan Richardson's And/Or (understudy) at Dixon Place. He made his professional theatre debut assistant directing the premier of Joseph Thalken and Barry Kleinbort's Was (Human Race Theatre). Adam recently appeared in Left of Center's sketch comedy pilot and J. Todd Anderson's film "My Mummy" (currenly in post production). He is a founding member of (Judith Blazer's) The Artist Crossing, a certified stage combatant, and holds a BFA in Acting from Wright State University.
Production Assistants

Lex Friedman is currently a film/drama student at Bennington College where she has worked as a director, writer, and actress on various theater, film and video projects. This is her first professional theater production.

Jamie Hastings is a recent graduate of the State University of New York, College at Geneseo, where she studied Musical Theatre with a concentration in vocal performance, and minored in Business Studies.   Along with her numerous performance credits from SUNY Geneseo, Jaime has also worked with Hofstra USA Productions and the Rochester Opera Factory.  She currently holds an exciting internship position with Casting Director, Cindy Tolan, here in New York.  Jaime is delighted for the opportunity to work with the talented Creative Team of "The Children," and thanks Gary and Charlie for this most valuable experience.

Sam Thielman is a second-year MFA candidate in the Dramaturgy and Script Development program at Columbia Univeristy. He holds a Bachelor's degree in English from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, and is a fellow of the O'Neill Critics Institute in Waterford, Connecticut. He has written on theater for Newsday, Back Stage, The Washington City Paper, and The Washington Theater Review .
